Mt Jagungal is the centre piece of the Mt Jagungal Wilderness area within the Kosciuszko National Park. The mountain is the tallest peak that is not a part of the Snowy Mountain ranges. Standing at 2061 metres, it is only surpassed by Mt Kosciuszko and adjacent summits.

It is advised that those attempting to climb Mt Jagungal be well prepared and should have some experience. It is a difficult ascent though very rewarding with 360-degree panoramic views of the national park.

The wilderness region is located to the north of the main mountain range. The main draw to the area is the magnificent alpine walking that can be experienced in warmer months and the fantastic cross-country skiing in winters. Almost three quarters of the wilderness area is open grassland so you can walk or ski almost everywhere.
