Peak & GlaciersThe term peak also known as summit can be described as the point on the surface of the earth, which is more elevated than any other adjacent point. Such points occur mostly on mountains and are isolated from other points due to their height. Peaks or summits that occur near a much higher peak are termed as subpeaks or subsummits of the elevated peak and are reckoned as the same part of the mountain.

Formation of peaks These peaks are formed due to weathering or glaciations where the ice causes the erosion of the mountain. Ice fields that occur at the head of the glacier create a U-shaped basin on all the sides of the mountain, which is also termed as cirques. These cirques advance towards each other and lead to the formation of arêtes. The combination of three or more arêtes leads to the formation of a peak. Most peaks have a sharp summit and at least steep slopes on three sides. The shape of the peak varies from mountain to mountain.

These peaks offers loads of fun and adventures to people. One can go for mountaineering which includes trekking, hiking etc. Viewing the surrounding area from a peak is quite an unforgettable experience for anybody.

Glacier can be described as a large river of ice, which flows slowly. This river is formed due to various compressed layers of snow that slowly melts and thus flows in the form of a river. One would be amazed to know that glacier ice is the largest pool of 100 % fresh water available on the earth. It is true as the water of the glacier is fully pure. Glaciers mostly occur in Polar Regions. They can also be found on high mountains in the Tropical regions.

Formation of glaciers The snow of the temperate glaciers on continuous freezing changes in to granular ice known as neve. Due to the high pressure, this neve mixes in to much denser firn. Due to regular compression the firn forms glacial ice. This glacial ice slowly melts and thus flows in the form of a river. There are various types of glaciers, which are listed below.
